I've got to get my "Elliot-mania" under control this week. I first saw little Dan in Vivid's Joker's Wild. He stole my heart away. Aunt Smutty fumed but took it in stride.
Then he starred in Vivid's Rear Window. I desperately contemplated relocating to California to be closer to Miss Dan. Smutty grew more annoyed each time I
mentioned Elliot's name in conversation.
This week I'll tell you all about Dan's latest starring role Pay to Play 3. Aunt Smutty's moved into the garage apartment by now. I'm forbidden to speak Dan's full name except in my scope as the video critic for Contax.
Hero worship is a tough row to hoe! Pay to Play 3 capitalizes on the success of the two earlier Pay to Play films. Both previous efforts were confined to stories of hustlers and their tricks with both parties eluding the ever-present authorities. Pay 3 takes the storyline a step further and broadens it with one character acting as both narrator and participant.
Scott Hogan, almost as busy as Dan Elliot in front of the Vivid cameras lately, stars as the narrating Philip Marloweesque detective who's hired by Elliot to find Steve Sinclair, the long-haired guy who starred in Pay 1 but was missing from Pay 2. It seems Danny has seen the guy, fallen in love with him, and now he's willing to do anything (there's that word) to find him again.
There's some cute dialogue from Hogan as he dishes out cliché after cliché in describing the story and characters in it, from his participatory observations.
Hogan's scenes are shot in black and white. Patrick Dennis has gone for the look, sound and the gritty feel of '40s detective classics with these segments. It's kind of neat!
We find Hogan bemoaning his decision to "answer that ad on a matchbook cover and become a private dick." He hasn't scored much business since he hung out his shingle and now his boyfriend has left him. He's running out of money fast. The arrival of Dan Elliot and his case pulls Hogan from the dumps.
Hogan recalls what made him take the case: "It might have been that look of

puppy love on his face. Or it might be that I wanted to get on all fours and play 'bad dog' with him." Whatever the reason, Hogan takes the case.
Dan asks him if he knows his way around the world of hustlers and their customers. Hogan answers dryly, "I could lead tours through this gutter called Hollywood."
After Dan exits, Scott makes his first phone call to a guy he knows as "The Squealer." He got the name 'cause he tends to "squeal when he's getting fucked, which, considering he's a hustler, is quite often."
The Squealer answers the phone from a prone position he shares in bed with Jean Luc (I assume it's Jean on account of his accent. I'll have to complain again that it's impossible to know who these people are when names aren't run against faces in the opening credits.)
The Squealer is being coy about coughing up information on Sinclair to
"Private Dick" Hogan. Besides, he says. he's retired from hustling, having found Jean Luc to share the rest of his life with. He says, "Let me tell 'ya, it was love at first sight. I was working the north side of the street and he was working the south side of the street. And when our eyes met we both knew it was looove."
Squealer gives a pretty good reading of that line. He rolls his eyes at the appropriate moment and stretches the word "love" into a polysyllabic moan.
Jean Luc and the Squealer get into a dishing match concerning the relative merits of Sinclair as Hogan is forced to listen in, still waiting for more concrete information. When he gets it and disconnects, he thinks to himself, "Those guys were dishing like they were at a Corning Ware convention."
Back in bed, the two lovers are still at
